The North Gaza Emergency Sewage Treatment (NGEST) project (World Bank P074595) built a new wastewater treatment plant for Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun, with an ultimate capacity of 35,600 m³/day: activated sludge with nitrogen removal, sludge thickening, two 4,800 m³ anaerobic digesters, centrifuge dewatering and biogas energy recovery covering about 60% of the plant's power demand, discharging to nine infiltration basins of up to 8 ha that recharge the aquifer.

Under the Works Completion Contract signed with the Palestinian Water Authority in November 2016, the joint venture of Termomeccanica Ecologia S.p.A. (Italy, leader) and MACC completed, tested and commissioned the remaining process, mechanical, electrical and control works and brought the plant into operation. Completion certificate issued 1 March 2018, which started the joint venture's two-year operation and maintenance contract.
